Federico Ignacio Russo Anzola is a 26-year-old Venezuelan-Italian professional footballer who mostly plays as a center back and defensive midfielder. He brings a versatile, global background to his current club in Iceland.
Born in Caracas, Venezuela, he spent his youth career playing for Estudiantes de Caracas SC and made his debut in the Copa Venezuela in 2016.
That same year he also got multiple call ups with the Venezuelan U-17 National Team and made his international debut in a friendly tournament in Cali, Colombia.
Fede went to the US to play college soccer, where he represented Lindenwood Lions and Iona Gaels.
After that, he gained European experience playing in Italy and Finland before moving to Iceland in 2025.
Currently, he plays as club captain for Kormákur Hvöt in the 2. deild.

I grew up in Caracas, Venezuela. Ever since I can remember, I have wanted to become a professional football player.

2005 - 2009
I started playing at the age of five, but my journey truly began when I captained my school team to its first trophy at age nine.
Later that same year, we won the national championship representing my state.

November, 2015
In 2015, I was selected among the top 20 youth players in Venezuela to participate in a 10-day training program at Valdebebas, sponsored by Real Madrid.
During the experience, I captained my team in a match against Real Madrid’s Cadete A side.
In 2010, my career at Estudiantes de Caracas began. I would remain with the club until 2018, progressing through every age group as captain and eventually making my first-team debut in the Copa Venezuela on August 18, 2016.

2010 - 2018

August 18, 2016
Played my first match with Estudiantes in the Copa Venezuela.
After that, during the 2016 Copa Venezuela campaign, I appeared in six matches, making three starts in total.

October 24, 2016
I played all 90 minutes in the final and accumulated 266 minutes throughout the tournament.
We finished as runners-up and secured qualification for the 2017 Copa Sudamericana.

November 17 - 28, 2016
That same year, I earned multiple call-ups to training camps with the Venezuela U-17 National Team, including selection to the 23-player squad that competed in the Torneo Internacional de las Américas in Cali, Colombia.
After graduating from high school in 2018, I embarked on a new journey in the United States.

2018 - 2019
I received a scholarship to play and study at Lindenwood University, an NCAA Division II program in Missouri.
During my time there, I played 33 matches, making 28 starts and accumulating 2,391 minutes. I was also recognized as an Academic All-Conference Honoree.
After my second season, I transferred to Iona University, an NCAA Division I program in New York.

2020 - 2022
There, I played 37 matches, making 34 starts, scoring two goals — both game-winners — and accumulating 3,116 minutes on the field.
During my senior year, I served as team captain and helped lead the program to the conference tournament final.
My achievements at Iona included All-Conference Second Team (Midfielder), Academic All-Conference Honoree, and the Iona Athletics Merit Award.
Throughout my college career, I spent my summers competing in USL League Two, one of the highest levels of pre-professional soccer in the United States.

2021 - 2023
In 2021, I played for Manhattan Soccer Club, where I scored one goal.
In 2022, I joined Kalamazoo FC and helped the club win the Great Lakes Division.
In 2023, I played for Oly Town FC, where we reached the national Round of 16.

2024
In 2024, my journey continued in Europe.
I first arrived in Italy before moving to Finland to join Sporting Kristina.
There, I played and started 14 matches, scoring three goals and providing three assists.

2025
In early 2025, I returned to Italy to play for Baldaccio Bruni, where I played and started nine matches.

2025
Later that year, I moved to Iceland and signed with KF, making 11 appearances and playing a total of 983 minutes.
Midway through the 2025 season, I earned a move to a higher division and signed with Kormákur Hvöt.

2025 - 2026
In the remaining of the 2025 season after joining, I played nine matches and accumulated 750 minutes.
Currently in 2026, I serve as the team’s captain.
This season, I have played eight matches, scored one goal, and accumulated 780 minutes so far (as of 4th June).
My journey has taken me across South America, North America, and Europe. Through every challenge, move, and opportunity, my objective has remained the same: to continue developing as a player and compete at the highest level possible.
